Interview Tips

A college interview is a chance to show that you are more than just test scores and grades.

The interview is important for InTuition Languages to identify if the interviewee would be able to enjoy a positive transition into the American college life, which is different from the lifestyle in the student’s native country. As important as to cover all aspects inherent to the individual development in a foreign country, it is not creating a feeling of uncertainty towards leaving the home country that may make the participant change his/her mind.

Below you will find some useful tips to bear the interview as good as possible.

Before the interview

• Research our website.
• Choose an appropriate interview outfit
• Prepare answers on questions which the interviewer you could ask during the interview.
  Examples are:
  
  • What are your favourite subjects, and why?
  • Why do you want to study in the US?
  • In regards to extracurricular activities (artistic, socials, work, others) what are of importance to you?
  • What does being a way from home make you feel?
  • What worries you about studying in the US?
  • What are your plans for the future?
  • Could you name three strong points of yourself?
  • What have you done to prepare for college? 
• Don’t memorize a speech; do only have some starting point for your answers.
• Prepare questions to ask the interviewer.
• Bring with you documents like, CV, test scores and high school transcript.
• If the interview takes place in our office, get directions to our office.
• Do not be too nervous. If you have prepared, then confidence is likely to shine through the apprehensions.

During the interview

• Preparation is everything. 
• Be on time
• Be prepared to discuss your educational background and your life outside the classroom
• Never lie during an interview.
• Answer with full sentence, not only yes or no
• Ask questions
• Do not chew gum
• Avoid wearing to much perfume

After the interview

• Make notes about the conversation.
• Be not too worried afterwards if the interview didn’t go the way you expected. Nearly nobody is satisfied after an interview.
