Admission essay
To apply for a US Scholarship you need to make an Admission Essay. This is an essay about yourself. It's a chance to show you can think about things and that you can write clearly about your thoughts.
To create your perfect essay, accomplish the following process:
1. Brainstorming
You have to think about what do you want to write about yourself. You can think about things like:
- Difficult lifetime + influence
- Favourite books/films/activities + influence
- Dreams for the future
- Opinions from friends about you
- Strength and weaknesses
- Events, activities or achievements which have contributed to your own self-development
- Describing of your educational, personal and career goals
Give yourself the time to do the brainstorming (around 1 week).
Things that you have to include are:
- Why do I feel I deserve a scholarship?
- What are my objectives in the USA?
- What are my plans after completing my education?
2. Writing
Write your essay in three basic parts:
- Introduction
- Body
- Conclusion
Try to write simple, direct and clear. Start with the body, this makes it a lot easier to write an introduction afterwards. Use your introduction to grab our interest from the beginning.
About the conclusion, do not create a summary. Probably you can link the introduction to the conclusion, or clarify a term, which you have used before. Remember, this is the last opportunity to impress.
3. Final product
Leave your essay for a few days before checking it again. Are you satisfied? A good idea is to rewrite the essay; you will improve the essay guaranteed. An other good way to discover mistakes is to read your essay out loud. Further, try to find someone else who can give you feedback.
