Cost of studying at US university

In the US the university costs vary between different universities and the accommodation and travel costs vary between different cities. So please note that the costs below are just estimations.

Tuition

Tuition will be the most expensive component of your educational costs. Private institutions and public institutions classify the universities. The private universities charge normally higher tuition fee than public universities. The prices for the private universities can range from $15,000 to $55,000. And the prices for the public universities vary from $10,000 to $25,000.

Accommodation

Accommodation on Campus will also cover a large component of your educational costs. For $400 you can live alone in a place like Auburn or share an apartment with 6 people in New York. Normally the costs are between $3,000 and $8,000. If you decide to hire an apartment, please bear in mind that you also need to pay electricity, phone line, furniture and travel costs to and from the university.

Extra fees

Most colleges and universities will charge fees for things like student activities. The total amount will be around a few hundred dollars per year.

Books

At all the US universities students have to pay for their study books. Sometimes it is possible to buy cheaper books from the school’s bookstore. The costs will be between $500 and $1,500 per year.

Personal expenses

This depends on the student himself/herself. Think of things like clothing, entertainment, telephone bills, etc.

Travel

Travel depends also on the student. It depends on the place were you life in the UK, the place were your university will be in the US, the place were your apartment will be and how often your will go back home.
